When processing precision parts, the roundness measurement method and the two-point and three-point methods can be used for inspection. The law of circularity is to place the component to be measured on the workbench of the roundness meter, align the center line of rotation, and make the roundness meter probe rotate in contact with the inner hole of the workpiece. Based on sensors, amplifiers, optical filters, and measurement power circuits, accurate measurement results are ultimately displayed.

If the output is a specific contour drawing, the inscribed circle template can be used, and the radius difference between two tolerable same boat circles can be used as the roundness error of a certain section. This instrument is suitable for components that require higher measurement accuracy.

If the measured contour is a circular shape with an odd number of edges, the roundness error cannot be measured using the two-point method. In this case, the three-point method can be used for accurate measurement. Use a V-shaped bracket to support the product workpiece to be tested, use an indicator to measure the larger error caused by one rotation of the product workpiece, and take it as the roundness error of the section.

Commonly used V-shaped intersection angles α are 60 degrees, 72 degrees, 90 degrees, 108 degrees and 120 degrees respectively. The three-point method can also be used for high-precision precise measurement in precision parts processing.
