The plasma used in dry etching processes may be either a reactive gas or a mixture of gases such as oxygen, chlorine, or fluorine, which are ionized and then react with the material by knocking off atoms from the surface.
The dry etching technique offers greater control over the direction and depth of the etching, allowing for the formation of more complex and intricate patterns. It is also able to achieve high aspect ratio, which is the ratio of the depth of the etched feature to its width.
